Ursula: on EU Prosperity

So what’s the five year plan of newly elected EU President Ursula von der Leyen? Let’s take a look, starting off with making business in Europe more easier with a simplified approach, faster permitting, better enforcement and building more trust. This can be done by removing red tapes through codifying and consolidating legislations to prevent overlaps and contradictions. She will create Commissioners with sole tasks of simplifying the business process by reducing administrative burdens and enacting regular dialogues to align expectations with on the ground realities. For climate, Ursula will implement and focus on the existing legal 2030 legal framework that will set forth a Clean Industrial Deal which is a collaboration with key players in creating the perfect conditions where there’s access to cheap, sustainable and secure energy supplies and raw materials that will prepare the EU towards a 90% emission reduction target for 2040 this will enshrine the European Climate Law. Innovation will also be in the heart of the new EU with the launch of AI Factories Initiative that will help AI start ups level up to the rapidly changing and evolving AI industry. The EU President Elect will also maximize public investment and leverage this with private capital by working closely with European Investment Bank, this action will attract an extra 470 EU Billion investment per year. When it comes to data protections and strategy, her plan will focus on creating a clear and simplified legal framework where businesses and administrations can share data on a seamless and effective scale while ensuring there’s respect when it comes to privacy and security. And in Defense, member states will always retain responsibilities for their own troops but the EU will create a new approach to ensure that European’s defense structures are geared for security and peace. Ursula says, “The best investment in European security is investing in the security of Ukraine. Europe’s financial, political and military support must be sustained for as long as it takes. We will use all the instruments at our disposal, including through the European Peace Facility, working on everything from immediate needs to future reconstruction efforts through the Ukraine Facility” When it comes to migration, the EU will ensure an efficient and fair approach and procedures to implement the Pact on Migration and Asylum. The member states will have the expertise, operational and financial capacities to turn legal commitments into dynamic realities tackling the challenges of internal migration going forward. The Quality Jobs Roadmap will lay down the path forward for fair wages, good working conditions, fair transitions and training as well collective support for self employed. And lastly for International relations, Ursula believes that the EU should play an active role in the promoting alliances with Middle Eastern countries, strengthen economic relationships with the UK, effectively deal with geo-strategic rivalries with Russia and China, deepen the relationships with Latin America and the Caribbean while continue to open investment corridors for Africa. “The next five years will define Europe’s place in the world for the next five decades. It will decide whether we shape our own future or let it be shaped by events or by others. In a world of adversity and uncertainty, I believe Europe must choose to sticktogether and dare to think and act big. To live up to the legacy of our past, to deliver for the present, and to prepare a stronger Union for the future. This is the driving force behind these guidelines and all that I want to work on with the European Parliament and the Member States in the next five years” remarked by EU President Elect Ursula von der Leyen.
