Israel Targets Beirut
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have claimed responsibility for a strike in Beirut around 19:40 today. The IDF stated, “We conducted a targeted strike in Beirut against the commander responsible for the murder of children in Majdal Shams and the deaths of numerous other Israeli civilians. Currently, there are no changes to the Home Front Command’s defensive guidelines. Any updates will be communicated if changes occur.”
The attack in Majdal Shams resulted in the deaths of 12 children and injured over 40 civilians. Social media quickly showed extensive damage at the strike location in a densely populated suburb of Beirut, near the Haret Hreik neighborhood. Although initial reports suggest one fatality from the strike, the extent of the damage raises concerns that the number of casualties and injuries may rise as authorities continue their assessment.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant commented on social media, stating that “Hezbollah crossed the red line.”
