Focus on Florida
Critics of the Georgia voter suppression measures had always been right, the legislative led changes on voting rights and policies will be copied by other states, this happened in states like Montana and Arkansas. And now Florida known for its perfect mail in ballots initiatives are going the same route. Few days ago, the Republican led state legislature just passed a similar voter restriction bill which Republican Governor De Santis is expected to enshrined into law. Let’s dig in and analyze this really bizarre and wacky measures that obviously are designed to curb the rising tides of voters that Florida had seen in the past election cycles and also discourage mail in ballots. One of the measures in the bill is that a 25K fine for election officers who fails to follow the soon to be law, one questionable initiative that raises eyebrows of various political pundits is the one that requires each ballot box to be supervised, managed and maintained by an election worker, this means that the county’s drop in boxes will be limited to the number of staffs that they have at any given point, which will force them to cut the number of drop in ballot boxes that in the past election cycles provides convenience and encourages voters to participate in the election. And another weird measure included on this bill is that it bans groups or individuals from giving food or water to voters in line. Which is actually one way to suppress the vote, because this means if your hungry or thirsty, this will prompt you to leave your line, and thus you lose your opportunity to vote. These measures doesn’t make sense, it’s restricting the freedom to vote.
