Why not Pete?
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg is widely regarded by pundits as a strong contender for the Vice Presidency under Kamala Harris. While other names such as Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona, Governor Andy Beshear of Kentucky, and Governor Roy Cooper of North Carolina are also being discussed, Buttigieg—known as Mayor Pete during the Democratic Primary that secured Joe Biden's nomination and eventual presidency—continues to enjoy significant popularity, especially among young voters.
During the Primary, Buttigieg garnered substantial support, becoming a media favorite with his sharp debate performances and articulate statements. His military background and fresh diverse perspectives on issues from China to Immigration also makes him a formidable opponent to JD Vance. Known for his kindness, Buttigieg’s husband Chasten once mentioned that as Mayor Pete, he would personally address neighborhood issues like filling potholes, demonstrating his commitment to public service, a quality that makes him well-suited for his current role as Transportation Secretary, and possibly the Vice Presidency.
Pete Buttigieg has endorsed Kamala Harris, stating, "I will do all I can to help her win this election to lead America forward as our next President." If chosen as Harris's running mate, Buttigieg is poised to become a strong presidential contender in future election cycles.
