Mount Etna Erupts
Mount Etna, located in Sicily, Italy, is one of the most active volcanoes in Europe. In recent weeks, its activity has significantly increased, with the volcano spewing ash and smoke. Just yesterday, a heavy cloud of ash caused flight cancellations at Catania Airport, situated at the foot of Mount Etna. Some of the most notable eruptions include the 1669 eruption, which destroyed several villages and reached the outskirts of Catania, and the 1991-1993 eruption, which produced a large lava flow that threatened the town of Zafferana. Before this recent surge in activity, the volcano had been dormant for about four years. The Italian government is closely monitoring the situation, preparing for any potential escalation that could impact the surrounding villages and towns.
