Is Ukraine ready for EU?
Ukraine’s Pres Zelenskyy met with EU Pres Ursula von der Leyen, to talk about EU accession which after undergoing the membership process can lead to a full pledge EU membership for Ukraine. “We have fulfilled the recommendations required for opening accession talks . We have made progress in the rule of law, the protection of human rights and freedom for national communities, the increased transparency of state institutions, and the strengthening of the state, the anti-corruption system," remarked by Zelenskyy. While Turkey's 2017 EU membership application was marred by accusations of human rights violations, which require a clean record for EU accession, it's important to note that Turkey has been a NATO member since its inclusion in 1952. The EU must carefully consider its 2017 decision regarding Turkey in light of its current decision on Ukraine’s EU accession. But of course the EU membership process had always been a long and rigorous pathway, and for now, it seems Ukraine is satisfied with starting the accession talks. “Ukraine will be fully prepared both for the start of EU accession talks and, later, full-fledged EU membership” further remarked by Ukraine’s President.
