Filibuster politics

There’s an emerging tension that’s been brewing for months in the Senate right now, it’s called The Filibuster, a legislative move that can block any bill and in order to move forward a vote of 60 is required, given today’s climate in the Senate, something that’s tough to accomplish, ten Republicans votes are needed to defeat the Filibuster. Minority Leader Mitch McConnell surprisingly had not used this tool for some time now, but will he Filibuster the creation of January 6 commission which is an independent body that will dig deeper and investigate on what really happened during the capitol seige if the bill that just passed the House with 35 Republican votes is placed on the floor for a vote? If this happened, this will really reveal the true intentions and color of the Filibuster which is not to encourage bipartisanship and open the bill for a meaningful debate and point by point analysis of every section of the bill, but rather to really block any bill or measure that goes beyond and threatens the partisan parameters. This environment is ripe for another round of Congress gridlock a reminder of the Obama years. The progressive caucus understand the risk, Filibuster gives power to minority stakeholders, and that can happen to the Democrats next year, in the midterms when there are rising support for the Republicans. But if you’re elected to do your job and make people’s lives easier and better, that’s enough reason to go all in, and do the right thing rather than the wait and see approach designed to just protect the vulnerable seats. There’s a word for that, selfishness.
