Challenges of unrwa
Philippe Lazzarini, Commisioner General of UNRWA, Gaza’s largest humanitarian organization reports that February marked a 50% significant reduction on the amount of aids and relief goods that was distributed in Gaza. Lazzarini warned against looming famine that each day are becoming more of a daily reality, and famine can be averted by allowing regular delivery of relief goods to Northern Gaza, Lazzarini remarked, “This is a man made disaster. The world committed to never let famine happen again. Famine can still be avoided, through genuine political will to grant access & protection to meaningful assistance. The days to come will once again test our common humanity and values.” The last time that UNRWA delivered relief good and life saving supplies to Northern Gaza was last January 23. The Commissioner General of UNRWA also stated that “There is no safe place in Gaza, diseases are rampant, water is at a trickle, food production has come to a halt, hospitals have turned into battlefields and one million children face daily traumas.” As part of its food assistance in Gaza, UNRWA despite the difficult and high risk situations was able to deliver flour to over 371K families and more than 23K patients had received health care treatment and assistance on seven remaining UNRWA facilities. Seven water wells continues to operate providing the only water source in most parts of Gaza, while 45 solid waste management trucks are still operational.
