Al Quds Closes
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society, a humanitarian organization based in Gaza, has sadly announced the closure of Al-Quds Hospital due to the ongoing targetting of hospitals, electric and fuel shortages. Nebal Farsakh, the spokesperson for the society, expressed a mix of emotions, stating, "Today, we feel sadness, anger, and disappointment as we announce that Al-Quds Hospital is no longer in service." Since its inception, the organization has played a crucial role in saving lives and evacuating civilians to safety, although finding a secure place in Gaza is challenging at the moment, if not next to impossible.
Despite weeks of appeals to the international community, the organization's plea have not been successful. The current crisis in Gaza, marked by a lack of fuel and electricity, shortages of water and food, forced Al-Quds Hospital to cease operations. The situation is exacerbated by the ongoing military actions of Israel, with escalating attacks and a deprivation of aid to the hospital further contributing to its shutdown.
The Society places responsibility on the international community and the signatories of the fourth Geneva Convention for the breakdown of the entire healthcare system and the collapse of hospitals.
