Kamala won the Debate
It’s clear that Kamala Harris dominated the debate tonight from the very start. As soon as she entered, she walked straight up to Trump and shook his hand, instantly dispelling the lingering concerns among Democrats about Biden’s previous disastrous debate performance that led to Kamala’s Democratic ticket. VP Kamala owned the evening with her sharp tactics. She challenged and successfully baited Trump on topics like crowd sizes and the dwindling attendance at his rallies, effectively highlighting how his rhetoric hasn’t changed since his last debate appearance.
Kamala contrasted her vision for America—a country of hope and progress—with Trump’s portrayal of a nation in decline. She adeptly fact-checked Trump on various issues, including her stance on guns. She reassured voters that, as a gun owner, she has no plans to confiscate firearms and firmly told Trump that his lies need to end.
Trump’s controversial mention of a conspiracy theory about Haitians eating pets, was promptly fact-checked by debate moderator David Muir. Kamala also effectively challenged Trump’s position on Putin, pointing out that Trump easily falls from flattery by the Russian leader, and that is a serious concern of a credible leader that you can trust and bank on to protect and fight for your interests and rights.
On abortion, Kamala made a compelling case for the freedom of American women to make their own health and reproductive decisions. The moderator highlighted Trump’s indecision about vetoing a national abortion ban, revealing a policy rift between him and his running mate, JD Vance. Although Trump repeatedly attempted to criticize Kamala’s decisions and performance as White House incumbent, she skillfully redirected the focus back to the viewers, making them feel as though she was addressing their concerns directly.
Meanwhile, Trump stuck to defending his past positions and failed to acknowledge his election loss, which only alienated viewers who are weary of politics and seeking a return to normalcy. Kamala clearly won the debate. She demonstrated a deep understanding of the issues, delivered decisive blows to Trump, and connected with voters looking for new leadership and a break from Trump’s repetitive and boring rhetoric.
