Fresh Start for Haiti

Haiti appears to be embarking on a new chapter with the formal establishment of a Presidential Transitional council comprised of nine governing members. The council's primary objective is to spearhead the nation's reconstruction efforts and bolster its economic stability. CARICOM, representing government leaders of the Caribbean Community, has expressed support for this initiative, emphasizing the council's pivotal role in restoring Haiti's dignity, democratic processes, stability, and sovereignty.

Of utmost importance to the newly formed Presidential Council is swiftly addressing the security challenges plaguing Haiti, ensuring that citizens can resume their daily routines safely, access essential services, send their children to school without fear, and enable businesses to operate unhindered.

Following the resignation of Prime Minister Ariel Henry, Haiti found itself without effective governance, leading to a vacuum filled by local gangs and exacerbating insecurity. This instability has deterred potential investors, underscoring the critical need for a functioning government.
