Five Hundred

President Biden revealed today that the Department of Justice successfully blocked 500 illegal gun purchases by individuals under the age of 21, attributing this accomplishment to the enhanced background check provision of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. Biden emphasized the significance of this achievement, stating, "By thwarting these illegal gun acquisitions, we are actively preventing suicides, instances of deadly domestic violence, and potential mass shootings. In essence, this legislation is a life-saving measure and a crucial component of my comprehensive strategy to reduce crime and enhance community safety, as outlined in my American Rescue Plan, which allocated $15 billion for cities and states to bolster public safety."

Highlighting his commitment to combating gun violence, Biden underscored that his administration has taken more executive actions on this issue than any previous president in history. He urged Congress to adopt a series of measures, including universal background checks, the prohibition of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, an end to the gun industry's immunity from liability, and the implementation of a national red flag law. According to Biden, "there are already too many empty seats around family tables," emphasizing that it is entirely within the nation's capacity to curb this epidemic.
