Can Maduro win?

Today is a challenging day for Venezuelans as they head to the polls. The big question is whether they will grant their incumbent President, Nicolas Maduro, another term after eleven years in power. Maduro’s main opponent in this election is 74-year-old Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia. If Urrutia wins, it would end the United Socialist Party’s 25-year hold on power, a reign that began with the late President Hugo Chavez. Maduro's administration has faced significant economic problems, including massive outward migration as millions of Venezuelans seek better opportunities abroad due to inadequate living wages and poor living conditions. Additionally, crippling US sanctions have exacerbated the country's struggles. With the opposition's strong rallies, Maduro's regime is facing its toughest challenge yet. Will this election mark the end of socialist rule in Venezuela, or can Maduro rally support by invoking the legacy of Hugo Chavez? The world is watching.
