Black History
Just a quick update: Secretary Pete Buttigieg is leading the Department of Transportation's commemoration of Black History Month, highlighting the outstanding contributions of individuals in the advancement of U.S. transportation systems. To kick off the month, the department is paying tribute to the incredible men and women who built the Alaska Highway in 1942. This monumental project, costing 138 million dollars, covered a distance of 1,700 miles and was completed in 8 months. It connected various points in Alaska, ranging from The Big Delta to Beaver Creek, and extended as far as Fort Nelson and Dawson Creek in British Columbia. Throughout the month, the Department will spotlight additional noteworthy achievements as part of its celebration of Black History Month.
